TEXT ON-SCREEN: JAMES CURED* WITH MAVYRET

*Cure means no hep C virus found in the blood 3 months after treatment ends.

James: My name is James and I was in active addiction for around 10 years.

James: And I finally went into treatment in the year 2017,…

James: …and that is when I was diagnosed with hepatitis C.

Myself and my fiancé, we were both heroin addicts for almost probably 10 years.

James: Both of our lives were very chaotic in our twenties. So we enjoy the quiet, simple things now instead of the loud crowd, rough party scene.

James: You wake up in the morning. You’re craving your next fix and you’re not thinking. You’re not health conscious. You get to a point where, if you don’t have the utensils to use, you borrow someone else’s.

TEXT ON-SCREEN: WHEN JAMES WAS DIAGNOSED

James: I didn’t want to carry anything from my past moving forward.

James: When I did enter the program that helped me get sober, they tested all of us upon entry and I found out that I had hepatitis C.

James: It felt like just… almost like an onion, like I was just cutting layers o! myself from my past.

James: And start with the addiction and the emotional trauma, then — you know — the physical trauma…

James: …and that hepatitis C… that was the last step.

TEXT ON-SCREEN: For those new to treatment.

James: I wish I would have known sooner that I could’ve taken MAVYRET for 8 weeks.

TEXT ON-SCREEN: For those new to treatment.

James: I can see why people would say, “Only 8 weeks”…

TEXT ON-SCREEN: JAMES CRUSHED HIS HEP C IN ONLY 8 WEEKS WITH MAVYRET

For those new to treatment.

James: …’cause it went by very quickly.

James: And when I found out I had hepatitis C, I had felt like I had a stain on me that I was just gonna carry with me forever.

James: Being cured of hepatitis C was the final step.

James: I would take MAVYRET straight in the morning, right before breakfast, I would then cook my breakfast; eat that. I’d have a little bit of coffee and then go straight to my workout outside.

TEXT ON-SCREEN: MAVYRET is taken as 3 pills at one time each day with food.

James: I didn’t have to change the way I lived, the way I worked. And then my schedule there was the busiest I’ve ever had my entire life.

TEXT ON-SCREEN: MAVYRET is taken as 3 pills at one time each day with food.

James: I’m not one to count days, so that might be why. But, the weeks went by quickly.

TEXT ON-SCREEN: JAMES’ MOMENT OF CURE*

*Cure means no hep C virus found in the blood 3 months after treatment ends.

James: There wasn’t anyone in the room when I got the phone call. So, when I hung up…

James: …I kinda had a couple minutes of serenity, a couple minutes of peace…

James: …by myself just to kinda reflect on it, that — you know — I was doing the right thing.

James: And that was the spark of hope I needed to get to where I am today.

James: The reason why I’m sharing my story is to give people the same hope.

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

  • Hepatitis B virus (hep B) reactivation: Before starting treatment with MAVYRET, your doctor will do blood tests to check for hep B infection. If you have ever had hep B infection, hep B could become active again during or after treatment for hep C with MAVYRET. Hep B that becomes active again (called reactivation) may cause serious liver problems, including liver failure and death. Your doctor will monitor you if you are at risk for hep B reactivation during treatment and after you stop taking MAVYRET.
  • Do not take MAVYRET if you have certain liver problems or if you are taking the medicines atazanavir or rifampin.
  • In people who had or have advanced liver problems before starting treatment with MAVYRET, there is a rare risk of worsening liver problems, liver failure, and death. Your doctor will check you for signs and symptoms of worsening liver problems during treatment with MAVYRET. Tell your doctor right away if you have any of the following: nausea; tiredness; yellowing of your skin or white part of your eyes; bleeding or bruising more easily than normal; confusion; dark, black, or bloody stool; loss of appetite; diarrhea; dark or brown (tea-colored) urine; swelling or pain on the upper right side of your stomach area (abdomen); sleepiness; vomiting of blood; or lightheadedness.
  • There are some medicines that you should not take with MAVYRET. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. MAVYRET and other medicines may affect each other. This can cause you to have too much or not enough MAVYRET or other medicines in your body. This may affect the way MAVYRET or your other medicines work or may cause side effects. Do not start a new medicine without telling your doctor.
